Will getting your steps in hurt your lower back?- April 23rd

I love watching people inspired by their new watches and fit bits to become more active and “get their steps in” every day. Of course, each step requires forces to transmit up from the feet, through the knee, hip, pelvis and low back. This puts A LOT of pressure on the foot to begin dampening the forces from the ground before they travel up with full force to the lower back.

Has a chiropractor ever evaluated your foot in order to treat your low back pain? No? Well they should have!! A joint called the subtalar joint (basically your heel) has to move outward to absorb pressure. If this does not move outward with every step, that pressure travels up to your low back. Imagine 50 million steps over the years and the damage that could cause over time.

I am working on my new evaluation for patients on a day to day basis and the foot will 100% be in every evaluation. In fact, I did that just TODAY on a patient and there were great results already. Ask your chiropractor about it today or go get your feet checked out today!!
